City of Rahway and Social Justice Commission to Celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 16 with an Evening of Performances, Educational Presentations, Live Music, and Family-Friendly Fun at Rahway Recreation Center
Rahway, NJ - Mayor Raymond A. Giacobbe and the Rahway City Council have partnered with the Rahway Social Justice Commission to host the City of Rahway’s Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 16 from 4:00-9:00 PM at the Rahway Recreation Center. As a City committed to equality and progress, we celebrate Juneteenth to commemorate the effective end of slavery following the Civil War and the ongoing efforts we make towards creating a just society.
The Social Justice Commission will kick off the celebration from 4:00-5:00 PM with performances by youth dance group Steppaz with Attitude, spoken word artist Myra Middleton, and Rahway Dance Theater, followed by insightful presentations detailing the history and meaning behind Juneteenth, and scholarship award presentations before concluding with the official flag raising.
From 5:00-9:00 PM, the Rahway Recreation Center will be full of activities, providing hours of fun for friends and families alike. Get on your feet and dance the night away with live music by AB Salute House featuring DJ George A, DJ Zion, DJ Buzz, and DJ Algebra or enjoy family-friendly games and grab a bite to eat from a variety of food trucks that will be on site.
“The City of Rahway is proud to celebrate Juneteenth as we reflect on the past of our nation and acknowledge the strides that we as a society continue to take for a truly just and equal future. This event serves as a chance to learn more about the holiday and to come together for a fun community celebration,” said Mayor Giacobbe.
